THE PROJECT

Euregional Zero Emission Initiative based on cost sharing flights

ASL Group, NIO, Fachhochschule Aachen and Maastricht Aachen Airport joined forces to investigate the possibility of setting up an all-eletric, zero emissions travel experience, connecting the Euregional airports of Maastricht, Aachen and Liège. At the option of the passenger, this experience includes transportation to and from the airport powered by NIO within the pick-up area.

Purpose
The purpose of this project is to provide a fully electric, multi-modal travel experience and demonstrate the potential of the regional airport infrastructure as an integral part of future mobility concepts. Besides that, the project aims to support research on future mobility concepts involving regional air mobility. It will provide key insights into the challenges of operating an all-electric aircraft cross-border, including laws and regulations, air traffic control, airport infrastructure and handling procedures.

Flights
The flights will be conducted with a Pipistrel Velis Electro; the only EASA certified electric aircraft to date. These aircraft are provided by ASL Flight Academy and FH Aachen. The Pipistrel is able to carry one passenger and one pilot.

Door-to-door emission-free transport
The passengers can book the experience using the Electrifly app. This integral booking platform offers the possibility to book a door-to-door transportation solution fitting their needs. This can include ground transportation provided by NIO in addition to the flight. The pick up and drop off location must be within the pick-up area of the project.
